This painting is similar to others in the ‘Road Ahead’ series.
In this very ‘soft’ painting of an outback Queensland road, the colour of the bitumen indicates the colour of the metal taken from a local quarry and used in the road’s upgrade. The rich volcanic soil lines the sides of the road and is in contrast to the softer colours of the ‘stippled’ roadside grass.
The pink-mauve hills in the distance connect with the road, and a well-placed tree balances the painting.
Above the mountains four skydivers, who are enjoying themselves, float in the distant skies.
Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
