In this delightfully soft, balanced, acrylic, abstract painting, the artist has captured ‘naturalistic’ light effects.
The composition’s foreground has fresh white highlights painted over pink colours of varying values, magentas and purples. This section of the painting is the centre of focus. The viewer’s eye is also attracted to the bright yellow colours that add energy to the painting. They are accompanied by subtle blue-grey shades.
The artist used swift, twirling brushstrokes and a loose, ribbon-like technique when painting Space Explosion. There is a sense of movement in the painting and colours and shapes relate harmoniously, if not musically, with each other.
Another gentle, yet exciting moment in the artist’s life, is evident in this painting.
Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown, probably mid-career. (Cleaned and framed.)
