In this textured, interesting, expressionistic painting, the artist has caught the action of the smoker very well indeed.
Primary colours have been applied in definite, swift brush strokes. The smoke rises perfectly. Colours have been blended to give touches of purples, orange, burgundy etc. White effectively provides light and strengthens the outline of the smoker’s face, who, with head erect and tough stance, has been well-placed on the darkened canvas. The bold stroke of orange-red in the background adds interest. One may ask,” Where is the action taking place? Who is the smoker trying to impress? What is about to happen next?”
Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
